MK Guide Recommends

Shōsei-en Garden, also known as Kikokutei, serves as the detached garden of Higashi Honganji Temple. Established in 1641 through a land grant from Shōgun Tokugawa Iemitsu, the garden was designed by the esteemed landscape architect Jōzan Ishikawa. Spanning approximately 33,000 square meters, Shōsei-en showcases traditional Japanese design elements, including teahouses, ornate bridges, and the expansive Ingetsu-chi Pond adorned with islands and walkways. Despite suffering destruction from fires in the mid-19th century, the garden was meticulously restored during the Meiji era. Today, it offers visitors a serene environment to enjoy seasonal blooms such as cherry blossoms in spring, irises in summer, and vibrant maple leaves in autumn.
