MK Guide Recommends

Though lesser known than Osaka Castle, Kishiwada Castle offers a more intimate glimpse into Japan’s feudal past. Originally built in the 14th century and reconstructed multiple times, the current keep—modest in scale but rich in atmosphere—sits atop a high stone base, surrounded by a beautifully maintained garden and mirror-still moat. Inside, exhibits cover the local ruling Okabe clan and Kishiwada’s celebrated Danjiri Festival, a high-energy parade of wooden floats that still charges through town each autumn. The castle park is peaceful, with cherry blossoms in spring and quiet walking paths year-round, offering travelers a contemplative stop beyond the tourist circuits of central Osaka.
