The shrine dates back to the Edo period and is best known for the Tōka Ebisu Festival held every January, when hundreds of thousands gather to receive lucky bamboo talismans and pray for fruitful endeavors in the coming year. During the celebration, the grounds come alive with lanterns, festive chants, and traditional music—blending faith and celebration in the heart of Hakata.
