MK Guide Recommends

Housed in a century-old kura beside the riverfront in Nagahama’s atmospheric castle town, Roman Beer feels part-brewpub, part-heritage museum. Inside, oak beams and exposed tanks frame communal tables for enjoying their flagship Nagahama Ale, Ibuki Weizen, Tankai Pilsner, plus rotating seasonal brews—all unfiltered, crafted on-site since its founding in 1996. A micro-distillery beside the restaurant handcrafts “Nagahama Single Malt” and the avant-garde AMAHAGAN whisky. The menu adds local resonance with Omi beef roast, homemade sausages, curry, and fish & chips respectively. Its riverside setting, polished vintage interior, and craft focus create a relaxed experience suited for families, beer lovers, and evening visitors alike.
