Ishiyamadera Temple, located in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, is one of Japan's most significant cultural and historical sites. Founded in 747 AD, the temple is a key pilgrimage site and is renowned for its striking natural setting, with large quartz rock formations that give the temple its name ("Ishiyama" means "stone mountain"). The temple is also famous for its connection to Murasaki Shikibu, who is said to have begun writing "The Tale of Genji" here. Visitors can explore the temple's beautiful gardens, ancient halls, and pagodas, all while enjoying the stunning views of the surrounding landscape, which changes with the seasons.
