MK Guide Recommends

Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion, is a Zen Buddhist temple in northern Kyoto famous for its top two floors covered in gold leaf. Originally built in 1397 as a retirement villa for the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, it was converted into a Zen temple after his death. The pavilion is a stunning example of Muromachi period architecture, combining three different styles: Shinden, Samurai, and Zen. Visitors can admire the pavilion's reflection in the Mirror Pond, stroll through the beautifully maintained gardens, and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Kinkaku-ji is one of Kyoto's most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
