MK Guide Recommends

Nishinomiya Jinja, affectionately known as Nishinomiya Ebisu, serves as the primary shrine dedicated to Ebisu—the Shinto god of commerce, fishermen, and good luck. Founded in the Heian period, it has long been a spiritual center for merchants across Japan. Every January, the shrine hosts the famous Tōka Ebisu Festival, where thousands rush through its red gates at dawn to earn the title of fuku-otoko (“lucky man”). Beyond its well-known festival, the peaceful grounds invite quiet reflection, framed by stately cypress trees and elegant shrine architecture. A visit to Nishinomiya Jinja offers both cultural richness and a timeless glimpse into the spirit of Kansai’s merchant faith.
