MK Guide Recommends

Opened in 1899, Miyakagi holds the warmth of pre-war Nagoya in its wood-framed façade and tatami-clad dining rooms. Inside, lacquered tables, private booths, and sunlit tatami rooms frame the ritual of eel—crispy-skinned, sweet-sauced, and slathered over rice with evolving seasonings—or comforting miso-suki hot pot as an alternative. The central courtyard allows soft daylight to filter through, complementing a sense of calm hospitality. This is the kind of place where locals and travellers alike settle for a slow lunch, a business meal, or a nostalgic dinner steeped in history.
