MK Guide Recommends

Kiyomizu-dera, one of Kyoto's most iconic temples, is famous for its wooden stage that juts out from the main hall, offering breathtaking views of the cherry and maple trees below, as well as the city of Kyoto in the distance. Founded in 778 AD, the temple is named after the Otowa Waterfall, whose waters are believed to have wish-granting powers. Visitors can drink from the waterfall's three streams, which are said to bring health, longevity, and success in studies. The temple complex includes several other significant structures, such as the Jishu Shrine, dedicated to the deity of love, and various other halls and pagodas designated as national treasures. Kiyomizu-dera is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers seasonal illuminations during the cherry blossom and autumn leaf seasons.
